Do you have a great piece in your wardrobe but you never wear it because you’re not sure what to wear with it? You love it, the piece fits perfectly and it’s a great colour so why doesn’t it work?
Often the solution is right in front of you. Sometimes it’s as simple as playing in your wardrobe and experimenting with what you already have. At other times you may need to invest in one or two pieces to make it work . If this is the case think strategically as any pieces that you introduce should go with at least three other items. If you are buying something to save one piece (unless you absolutely love it), it’s probably not worth the investment.
A big thank you to Lynda for volunteering her ‘tricky’ piece – a Callco trumpet skirt she picked up from Material Pleasures 3 years ago. Material Pleasures, based in Fyshwick is a little gem that ‘buys and sells contemporary or recent designer pieces’. Lynda loves the skirt for it’s flattering shape and fit, but has found the colour a little tricky to play with. She often wears it with a black top but would love some more options in order to make it more versatile.
Beige with black lace trim Callco trumpet skirt from Material Pleasures.
How do I wear it?
The skirt is a fabulous shape for Hourglasses, Triangles and Inverted Triangles as it creates great proportions. With the black lace and pinstripes, it is important to keep tops and jackets as simple as possible and play with accessories. Rich colours for winter will work really well, while crisp whites and creams paired with wedges will be great for summer.
The aim was to find alternatives to black tops. So we found this chocolate ruffle wrap top (Sussans) added a brown cami, brown fishnets (a fantastic alternative to black ones) and Isabella Anselmi pumps with floral detail. I love this outfit because the top and shoes mirror the detail on the skirt without overpowering it.
Here are the other great pieces that we found in Lynda’s wardrobe.
Some more options
Although Lynda has lots of colour in her wardrobe, she doesn’t have many tops that quite work with her skirt. So I had a look online and found some other options at Birdsnest. I would have also loved to have found a deep forest green or mulberry velvet blazer. I think that would look amazing with the skirt.
